Letter of Introduction
Stendhal, Grenoble,
France
Teacher: Anne Boursier
Grenoble is situated in a valley surrounded by the Alps. The river
Isere' runs through it, separating the city into two distinct
areas.Typical architecture of the town centre is shops topped
by Neo-Classical apartments. There are numerous parks, museums and art
galleries scattered around the town. Our city has a large university
campus.People come from all over to visit the picturesque 'Chateau de
Vizille', the birthplace of the French Revolution.Grenoble was also
the home of the Winter Olympics in 1968. Grenoble is a rather polluted
city since it is in a valley . .It is for this reason that there is an
extensive tram and electric bus system which runs back and forth through
the town. In the centre of the city stands our school.Stendhal is divided
into two sections: the international and national sections. The languages
taught in the International section are Spanish, Italian, German and English.
The section is mostly made up of people who are bilingual or are from another
country.
Our school was named after a famous French writer, Stendhal, who was
educated there. It also contains a historical monument: the Solar Clock.
We work a minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 8 hours a day. At
the earliest, we start at 8 a.m and at the latest we finish at 6p.m
We also wanted to mention something that is extremely important to
the French: food. Most people would never dream of spending 10 minutes
with a sandwich in front of the TV. The French eat to enjoy their
food....frogs' legs and snails included.
