 LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
Maple Ridge Elementary, Alpena, Michigan, USA
Teacher:  Michael Meharg

Hello from the 5th Grade class at Maple Ridge Elementary School in Northern Michigan. We are located in Alpena County. Alpena is easy to find on a map, we are on the shore of Lake Huron at the 45th parallel. Our school is located in Maple Ridge Township. Maple Ridge Township is 54sq mi with a population of 3000. The school is  K-6 with 140 students. It is located on
40 acres which include the school, playground and a 20 acre Nature Area with pond.

There are a lot of different kinds of wildlife in our nature area. These include deer, turkeys, coyotes, fox, bear, possum, blue herons and possible Elk which are just starting to move into our area. There are also many varieties of trees such as the white pine.

We are enjoying a Indian summer right now but signs of winter are everywhere.  The big V's of geese are overhead going south and the sound of chain saws can be heard as many cut extra firewood for the long winter ahead.  This winter we hope to get lots of snow!

From the 25 students in Mr Meharg's 5th grade class.
