 LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
Marion Sarah Payton School, Marion, Maryland, USA
Teacher:  Patti Monk

We are a group of six fifth grade students from Marion Sarah Peyton Elementary School in Marion, MD, a small town on the eastern shore of Maryland.

There are only six of us because we have been "pulled" from three classes to be taught social studies by Mrs. Monk.  We are excited that Mrs. Monk picked us to do the TOE Project.

We begin school at 8:55 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m.  We have a half hour for recess (a favorite time of day for all of us), and a half hour for lunch.

Our subjects are reading, spelling, English, social studies, science, and math.  Our special subjects are computer, media, guidance, physical education, and music.  All fifth graders are learning how to play the recorder.  We each have our own.  We are also planning on doing a musical early in the year that will involve all fifth graders.

We have SQUIRT time for 20 minutes every day.  SQUIRT stands for sustained, quiet, uninterruped, individual, reading time.

Our school has approximately 230 students in grades 3, 4, and 5.  We enjoy being the "seniors" at our school.    We have one teacher for language arts and social studies, another teacher for math and science, and Mrs. Monk is our extension lab teacher.

We have three computers in our classroom, but are not yet hooked up to the internet.  We expect to be at any time.  We can hardly wait!  We also have a computer lab that we go to once a week.

Our favorite school lunch is pizza.  We do not wear uniforms at our school.

In our free time we enjoy playing soccer, video games, riding bikes, and the same types of things you all like to do.

We are enjoying reading all the introductions and locating you on the map!
