The Verrazano Bridge
PS 279, Brooklyn, New York,  USA
Teacher:  Winnie Bracco

The Verrazano Bridge is a gigantic bridge. It was built in 1964 and is 4,260 feet long.  It was named for Giovanni Da Verrazano who was an Italian explorer.  It has cars and trucks going over it.  There are long cables and ropes hanging down from the high top of the bridge to the low bottom. It is made of steel and cables.  When you are on the bridge you can hear horns, engines and waves crashing because the Atlantic Ocean is south of the bridge.  While there you will smell gas from the exhaust of the cars and trucks.  You will also smell grass because there is grassy land on the west side of the bridge.  You will enjoy seeing the birds swiftly flying and squawking over the bridge.  Birds eat and fly around there.  Huge trucks ride over the wide and tall bridge. Signs and billboards tell the cars and trucks where they are and where to go.  The color of the bridge is a dull pale blue- gray. It is made of rigid steel.  When you look at it from a distance it looks really pale.  You will see fast and radiant cars zooming by.  The Verrazano Bidge is a wonderful but busy sight to see!
