LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
Ullis Newton, Henderson Nevada
Teacher: Shanna Giraldes
We are Mrs. Giraldes' fifth grade students (ages 11-12) from Ulis Newton Elementary School in Henderson. We go to a year-round school, which means there's always someone on vacation. Every 3 weeks one "track" goes on vacation. A track is usually a class from each grade level. We are track 1, so we got the first 3 weeks of the school year off. We don't get another break until the beginning of January, but that one ties on to the end of the 2 weeks everyone gets off at the end of December. Which means, we get 5 weeks off!
Henderson is very close to Las Vegas. Sometimes you can't tell where Las Vegas ends and Henderson begins. Henderson is in a desert, so it doesn't get very cold in the winter. Once in awhile it snows, about every 7 years, but usually it is just cold. In the summer it is very hot, 100 degrees or more during the day.
We go to school from 8:55 - 3:05, Monday through Friday. We go to special classes, that another teacher teaches, like library, art, music, and physical education, every day for 50 minutes. We get lunch every day at 12:25 - 1:00. We have about 15 minutes to eat and 15 minutes to play. Some of us buy our lunch at school and some of us even like it. The rest of us bring a lunch from home. Sometimes at lunch time we get to play sports, like soccer. We have 2 soccer fields and 2 playgrounds.
We look forward to learning about all of you.
