Our school colors are red and black and we are called the Warriors. The eighth grade is split into two teams. We are the M.O.M. team, which means Masters of the Millennium.
Eighth graders are required to take math, American history, health, communications, English and gym. Currently we go to school from August to June but our district could possibly go year round in the near future. Our schools were air conditioned this summer.
Other activities that are offered at WJHS are football, cross country, track, basketball, cheerleading, volleyball, wrestling and tennis. Our girl's cross country team just took 1st in the conference and the boy's took third. Students can also participate in clubs after school. They usually occur around the different holidays. Our first dance is the Halloween Dance, which will be held Oct. 29. Everyone is looking forward to this because we can dress up in costumes. Awards are given for the best and scariest costumes. Rock Island is located on the Mississippi River, which is the largest river in the United States. Another unique feature is the Rock Island Arsenal Island. It is a military base where weapons are made and stored. Rock Island has about 41,000 people. We are called the Quad Cities when people talk about the surrounding cities of Moline, Davenport, and East Moline.
