  LETTER OF INTRODUCTION

Aiea Elementary, Aiea, Hawaii

Teacher: Lynne Sueoka

 Dear E-Pals,

Aloha!  We are students from Aiea Elementary School in Aiea, Hawaii.  We are in grades 4-6.

In Aiea Elementary School, the games we play are volleyball--you hit the ball, dig for the ball, and spike the ball.  We play dodge ball--we beam
the person, we throw the ball, get away from the ball, and catch the ball. We play baseball--we hit the ball with the bat, run, and pitch the ball. We also play basketball--we dribble the ball, shoot the ball, and run.  We also play tag--we run and tag the people.  Last but not least we play football--we kick, tackle, and catch the ball too.  Those are some of the games we like to play at Aiea Elementary School.

Our favorite hobbies are going to the mall, reading comics, exploring computers, and swimming.  Some people like to do other hobbies, but we'll
just stick to the ones we said.  We go to the mall to buy shoes, clothes, and games.   A long time ago comics used to be the most popular thing.  We
like to read Batman, Pokemon, and X-Man.  Exploring the computer is fun. You can surf the web.

Computers are what we use in the enrichment class for information.  We go to listservs.  We do E-mail.

We would like to tell you about our climate and description.  Our climate is 70-90 degrees in Hawaii.  Our weather is slightly fair.  Our clothes
are tank tops, slippers, muumuus which are Hawaiian dresses, and Aloha shirts.  We hope you like our state called Hawaii!  Mahalo nui loa.

A lot of people down here in Hawaii come from a lot of different ethnic backgrounds such as Hawaiian, Samoan, Filipino, and some from Tonga.  So
as you can see Hawaii is one of the places where you can find mixed culture.  Not only different backgrounds come to Hawaii but people come
with their language of their own country.  The language they sometimes speak down here is slang, pidgin, Hawaiian, Samoan, Filipino, and many
more.  The great foods that we eat down here are fish that most of our students in our school eat, lomi salmon, which is one of the Hawaiian
foods, breadfruit, which is a Samoan food, and last laulau and kalua pig, which is our favorite.  The traditions that are taken down in Hawaii are
the Hawaiians tradition which is Kamehameha Day and many more.

Your friends,
Aiea Elementary School
