SITGES

IES Parc De L'Escorxador, Barcelona, Spain

Teacher:  Carmen Fonseca

Sitges has a modernist past but little by little the old buildings were destroyed to construct other buildings . Today it still has some buildings . When we arrived we went from Avinguda d' Artur Carbonell to carrer Isla de Cuba  This street has this name because in the last century Spanish people went to Cuba to get a job. In Sitges some buildings had a number that shows the year that was created  "We went to Plaça de la Vila that is the most important place in Sitges
because there is Casa del Rellotge and in this place the most important streets of Sitges beguins.

Then we went to the beach and we had 30 minutes for breakfast, we talked and we had a very good time . Near the beach there are many modernist  buildings. Then we went to Palau Maricel which is a very well known modernist building (1913) , and on the way we saw the museum Maricel ( 1903) . Then we went to the urban center , but isn't modernist . Then we stopped the visit and we had free time to lunch and to go shopping  At 3:30 we went to the train station and we came to Barcelona . It was a lovely day

Sitges is a very nice and  peculiar city. It has many modernist buildings, important museums, excellent nocturnal atmosphere. But the time we went to Sitges we also did other things. For example, WE HAD LUNCH! Yes ¡ Don't you think it's important? So, this is what we did at lunch time: It was about two o'clock and we wanted going shopping before having lunch. We walked along the shopping area. We were tired so we decided to go to the beach and have lunch there. We ate  sandwiches, rice, omelettes... But our stomachs said " Oh, it's enough. We are empty " O.K. We rested there talking about school's gossip and laughing a lot. We also wet our feet in the sea .It was not cold .We were really enjoying to be there, but it was half past three, we had to be at the station at four o'clock . We had to leave.
Jeannette

We travelled by train and there was hardly any noise. It was nice. It was 10'30 and there wasn't so much noise because it was too early. We were walking along small streets so the noise was hardly noticeable. Most part of the noise was done by cars, motorbikes, lorries and definitely by transports.

Later at 11'00 the noise was louder than at 10'30 because there were more people and more transports.

At 12'00 we were situated at "2º de maig " there wasn't any noise because it was a walking area with shops, restaurants and some discos.

Then we walked to "Reco de la Calma "a very quiet place without any noise We were there for 15 minutes and 3 cars and 1 motorbike went by.

Then we had free time and we walked around the city and although it was afternoon the noise wasn't different to the morning's.

So comparing to Barcelona ,Sitges is a  quiet and a peaceful place.

The trip by train

The trip by train lasted 45 minutes approximately from Barcelona. From the train we could see small coastal cities: Bellvitge, El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, Gavà, Castelldefels, Garraf and Sitges. Before Castelldefels you could see more industries and factories. It is not a beautiful landscape.

But after you could see the brightness of the sea and we went through some tunnels and you could see expensive apartments. This is the coast of Garraf. Sitges Station is very small, only two platforms, but it is very nice

THE CHURCH
This church is very big and old. It is situated next to the sea. Next to this church, there is a little chapel. Inside this chapel, there are a lot of images and statues.

It's made of stone. Its architecture is of the style neo-classic. In the church there are three big iron doors.

There are a lot of windows, and there are stained glass windows, too. In its sidewall there are lanterns.

In its bell tower there are a lot of birds.

-Discos in Sitges:

--There are many discos in Sitges, if you go there, you'll have many discos to choose from. We went to Sitges in the morning so we couldn't see the discos. We saw them but only from the street, without music and colour lights. But it is not the same.
--Some discos were:
-Ricki's, in S/Sant Pau.*
-Amore, in S/Sant Pau.
-Pacha, in S/1 maig 1838.
-Bunker, in S/Marques de Montroig.
-Road House.

*This disco has a very beautiful picture on the facade, a girl with a very
big nose and with eagle legs.

I LIKE SITGES
Sitges is a very beautiful village. It is modernist, with buildings of the end of nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth. It is very pleasant and very tolerant: gays can walk around together and nobody thinks that this is incorrect. I think that a lot of people have to learn to behave like the people who live in this village. The beach is very cleaned and safe. When we went to Sitges, some of us got into the sea and wet our trousers with the seawater.  Once for all, Sitges is a village where you can have a nice day.

Sònia Roncero

It was a sunny day but with a little wind. The sea was rough. In the sky there were some white clouds but not many. In the shadow it was a bit cold. In the morning, in the train, we were about 18ºC-20ºC. At 12:00, more or less, it was very hot. Some people got into the sea, but it was very cold.

THE BEACH

Sitges is a town by the sea, its beaches are narrow and short but there are a lot of beaches, they are separated by breakwaters.

Now, in winter, the beach is deserted, this image contrasts with the beach in summer when it is full of people. Many of them were tourists and their bodies were red (burnt) from the sun.

2 DE MAYO STREET:
2 de Mayo is the most famous street in Sitges. It was very lively, and the people go there when they fancy like going for a stroll.

This street is known as the street of sin, and this name refers to the gay population. In this street there are a lot of places where you can spend some time, especially   fast food places for example Pans & Company, Pastafiore, McDonals, etc. To sum up, this street is for leisure. At the end of the street there are many shops where you can go shopping.
