*Greetings from the Ocean State:
Our class at Narragansett Elementary School has 24 students with one teacher,Elaine Stedman. In our town we have one elementary school with 798 students in grades K-4, a middle school with grades5-8, and a high school with grades 9-12. The three schools are all within a mile of each other. In our class we have been studying Weather, Colonial times, and mealworms. Rhode Island, one of the New England states, is the smallest state in the USA.
It is 48 miles from north to south and 37 miles from east to west with an area of 1,214 square miles. RI,one of the original 13 Colonies, was settled by religious refugees. It is the site of the first Baptist church, the first Jewish synagogue, and one of the first Quaker meetinghouses.
RI is the second most densely populated state, with our most important industries being, health care, tourism and jewelry manufacturing. Our forty miles of ocean coastline bring many tourists to our beaches in the summer.
We also enjoy swimming and surfing at the Narragansett Beach in the summertime. Our school is less than one mile from the Atlantic Ocean. Because of our proximity to the ocean we have a mild climate. Our average temperature in the winter is 30.degrees F and in the summer our average temp is 70 degrees F. We usually have about 44 inches of precipitation.
We have just finished the Landmark Game and are looking forward to the Explorer Game.

Elaine Stedman and 4th grade class
