The Hunt for Country Capitals
Fall 2000

2000 Schedule

Timeline:

The project/game will run from October 16-November 27 Total time involved will be 6 weeks with results being posted the 7th week.

Class time involved:

How many classes you involve, age of students, number of available online computers, other reference materials available, and how much class time you wish to devote to "research skills" will determine how much class time you will use to play the game. This game is ideal for a 7 week "exploratory" type class in computers or telecommunications but can be played by a single class with only one computer capable of going online.

REGISTRATION

All sites wishing to participate must register . The registration form is available here. Registration is due by 1200 GMT time Friday, October 13th.

Monday, October 16 through October 20

Teams should send a letter introducing themselves and telling a bit about the area they come from to the KIDPROJ board kidproj@listserv.nodak.edu .

October 22

A list of all participating sites and e-mail addresses will be posted to the KIDPROJ board as one message. Keep this list to have the e-mail addresses of where to send your yes/no questions asked of each site.

October 23 - October 27

During this time, all participating sites will choose their country capital and create 9 interesting clues. All 9 clues and the capital chosen must be sent to hagler@usit.net by no later than 1200 GMT Friday, October 27th or they are disqualified. (However, clues and answers can be sent earlier in the week if desired.)

Weeks beginning on Mondays of October 30th, November 6th, and 13th-

Each Monday, 1 set of 3 clues from each playing site will be sent to participants and posted at http://www.kidlink.org/KIDPROJ/capitals00/

During each of these weeks, sites may ask ONE yes/no question regarding their capital. These questions are to be sent DIRECTLY TO THE SITE and NOT to the organizer.

During these 3 weeks, students research clues trying to develop yes/no questions that will lead them to the answer of each capital chosen by other sites playing the game. ONE yes/no question may be asked of each site until 1200 GMT time Saturday of each week clues come out. (A total of 3 yes/no questions will/can be asked of each site but only one a week).

Yes/no questions that arrive after 1200 GMT time Saturday of each week do not have to be answered. So don't wait until the last minute to send out your questions! Sites MUST respond to each yes/no question asked of them during this time for EVERYONE to fully benefit from playing the game. Hitting the reply key and a simple "yes or no" is all that is required when receiving a question from another site.

Week beginning November 20
On Monday of this week, a list of all playing sites (with no e-mail addresses) will be sent out by the organizer. Teams should copy this message and enter ONE guess next to each site for the identity of the capital you think they have chosen. DO NOT SEND INDIVIDUAL GUESSES! All your guesses should be submitted to hagler@usit.net later than 1200 GMT Friday, November 24th.

Week beginning Monday, November 27th- The game is officially over and result tallies for each site will be posted to the KIDPROJ board along with the identity of the capital chosen by each site.
