The following is by Matt Townsend. Matt's taking a perspective of
a snake in a cage in the Tai Shan wet market.I woke up to another day in my packed cage. It was probably the worst day I've had since I was caught two days ago. Other snakes kept pushing and shoving as more snakes joined us. Just when I thougth things couldn't get any worse, these kids with bright shirts took pictures of me, like I was a tourist attraction. They were pointing and some of them were smiling and laughing, felt horrible. Next, it got even worse. The evil keeper thought it would be nice to give the visitors a demonstration of how he tortured us. He then took my father out and slapped his head hard against the solild concrete. His face turned cold. Finally, my dad was thrown in a boiling hot pot, alive and screaming. After ten seconds of this, he was taken out. His head was moving slowly and finally hit the ground. All this time the kids were pointing and snapping photos. It was torure.
I suppose it'll be my turn next.

This is an intinerary of the days activites written by Andy Olsen
(day 4, Phil Koester's group - Taishan to Kaiping.)
April 17, 1997This morning we got a wake up call at 7:30 am. We had a very good Chinese breakfast that had from soup to sandwiches. Then we went to "The wet market." They had vegetables, chicken, dog, cat, rabbits, owls and snakes. IT smelled like forty people died, it was smelly and very dirty. There was blood and guts all over everything. Then we went to a place where they make medicine. They showed us what they made but we could not see them make it because they did not want to get our germs in the medicine. Next, we went to the park and found a factory that made clothes. They had "Timberland" clothes, basketball team clothes, and official shirts for the NFL.
Around noon we had lunch at a place in the middle of the lake in the middle of town. We biked 22 km to Kai Ping in the pouring rain. Stopping at Wu Xi Middle School and a place where they make very old eggs called Thousand year eggs. We got to the hotel and had a buffet dinner and played snooker.
