These wierd kids in red interrupted my afternoon meal today. They
all arrived on bikes. Then the kids who had all different wierd
colors of hair and marched in like an army of soldiers and pulled
out a bunch of cameras. The bright light scared me so I ran away,
but my best friend Herb was more brave than me and let them take a
picture really close up. I wish I was as brave as Herb!! The "kids"
in red" invaded our sleeping quarters and kept flashing bright
lights at us. By that point it had started to rain so they all
trudged back out to their bicycles and rode off. Who were those
people`in red. There shirts read

The Village People
On a cold, rainy day three women stood by their houses, all
barefooted and watching the chickens. There fathers, husbands and
sons were out in the near by rice patties with the water buffalo.
As we biked along we saw dogs and chickens running about their
village. We saw an old woman sitting on a stump of a log. lAs we
drew nearer, she gave a gesture for us to come near. We stopped our
bike and walked into their village. A small girl in ragged clothes
looked at me and ran away laughing. Later on, I met her mother and
older sister and we talked for awhile. It was a small village with
ten houses, all built closely together. The land tht remained was
all farm land and what little the land produced was shared among the
village. We asked whether or not they buy most or their food or sell
most of it. They laughed and looked at us with big smiles and
answered," If we don't buy our food we will starve!" half jokely.
They also said," They sell about half their food and eat the other
half." They invited us to have tea but just then it started to pour.
Everyone started running around to put their drying clothes away and
putting the hay and wood indoors. We waved goodbye not wanting to
get soaked. All in all, they were very kind people. Here is the
picture of the village people (last of day one koester qtake).
