Biking Study Tour - April 8, 1997
Mrs. Crouch's Group

Day 2 of a 6-day biking trip through Southern Guangdong Province
150-200 miles WNW of Hong Kong

The following messages are written by five of the students traveling with Mrs. Crouch's biking group through Southern China. These students are on a 6-day study tour of the rural countryside of China as part of their study of the Chinese people and their country. The students are 7th graders from Hong Kong International School, on the southern tip of Hong Kong Island.

Morning Itinerary:

We woke up early today. We went down for breakfast and had a big Chinese breakfast which consisted of congee, dumplings, noodles, tea, bread, and other tasty foods. The congee was especially good. It had a great salty taste. We then walked 10 minutes to a nearby monastery.

We saw a lot of different things at the monastery, like incense and other Chinese religious customs. There were a lot of statues of the Gods. Chinese religions believe that they have to be the best man that they can be and to not harm others.

Afternoon Itinerary:

The afternoon started off slowly as the rain came down. We had just finished an exotic lunch of pigs intestine and pig liver. We made a dash for the bus and bussed for an hour and a half. We then started to bike. The scenery was beautiful and the hills seemed to roll on forever. It was amazing. Our group stopped at a village and we had some time to talk to the village people. The village was very old and the people were very friendly. At the end of the day my stuff was filled with mud. I was glad to get to the hotel and have a well earned rest.
