Black Sugar Mochi

My name is Kaitlin Lee and I am a 6th grader at Manoa Elementary School. I am 11 years old and I live in Hawaii. My recipe is called Black Sugar Mochi and it is a recipe from Japan.

Ingredients~

1 box Mochiko (Mochi powder)
2 cups water 1 can an (black sugar)
3/4 cup sugar potato starch

Directions ~

Boil water and sugar together & remove from heat. Add 1 package Mochiko. Mix until well blended . Cook 5 to 10 minutes on medium heat stirring constantly. Pour hot mixture on cutting board that has been coated with potato starch. Cut a piece off and put it in your left hand that has been coated with starch. Put one spoonful an (black sugar) & bring the edge of the mochi together & pinch to make it thick. Then place (pinched side down) on tray. Coat with potato starch and cool well before packaging.

Summary ~

Black sugar mochi is from Japan & is made on New YearUs Day. People make it on birthdays or special occasions. To my opinion, this dish is wonderful, sweet, gooey, mushy & good. So, try it! ItUs delicious!
