Vin Brul
Hot Mulled Wine from Friuli

On the night of Epiphany as bonfires blaze on the hill of Friuli, people stand in their gardens or on their terraces, watching the flames and keeping warm by drinking vin brul.

Makes 16 servings

2 bottles red wine, preferably Cabernet or Merlot from Friuli
6 cloves
2 apples, peeled and cut in small chunks
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 cup sugar

Bring all ingredients to a boil. Flamb and serve.
