Fruit salad

Fruit salad is a good traditional Swedish dessert. The fruits it contains are,of course, grown in southern climates. The salad`s composition varies according to season and availability of fresh fruits .Here is a classic mixture.

2 oranges
1 apple
1 banana
100 g (1 cup) grapes
sugar to taste
juice of ½ lemon

Peel the oranges, removing all the pith, and cut them in thin slice.Peel the apple and remove the core; cut it in small cubes.Slice the banana.cut the grapes in half and remove the pips. Place alternate layers of the fruit in a glass bowl, sprinkling a little sugar on each layer.Pour the lemon juice on top and chill the salad for several hours so that the juice accumulates. If desired,a few finely chopped almonds or walnuts may be sprinkled over the salad.

Served with whipped cream.
