RICE PORRIDGE

The rice porridge is served in Sweden on Christmas Eve as a dessert. Just one almond is added to the porridge. The person who gets the almond is supposed to hide it in his mouth throughout the meal and reveal his secret only when everybody has finished. The almond is then said to bring good luck to the one who gets it.

Ingredients:

3 dl water
1.5 dl white rice
half a tablespoon of salt
1 tablespoon butter
6 dl milk
a piece of cinnamon

Instructions:

Bring the water to boil and add the rice and the salt. Let simmer for 20 minutes. Then add the milk and the cinnamon and put in a 100°C oven for about one hour. Add some more milk if the porridge is too thick.
