When there wasn't money, people traded. If men had a wife who knew how to weave baskets, he would trade his wife's baskets for a spear or weapon. You might even have to trade your old small clothes for new better fitting clothes! Your cd player would be like 17,000 doller's to buy a car with. What would you do if you don't have any belongings? How could you just give up your things? Write back!!!!!!! Your friend, Danielle D'Armi Money Around The World There are billions of types of money in the world.Money has 3 main uses. First and most important it is a medium of exchange. Second it serves as a unit of account. Third use of money is as a store of wealth. The first coins may have been made during the 600's BC in Lydia, a country in what is now western Turkey. The coins were bean-shaped lumps of eletrum, a natural mixture of silver and gold. The coins were stamped with a design to show that the king of Lydia guaranteed them to be of uniform value. Early people had no system of money. People had to trade as far as we know. Every country has its own type of money. And each country has a name for its money. Krista Young A World Without Money If there were no money I don't know what I would do. If I didn't have any money I couldn't buy anything. Like if a farmer needed help you could probably work for food or shelter. But if they didn't need work it would be hard for a lot of people. Like say if a person traded you some cows and they were sick. That would be bartering. If you had an apple tree you could trade apples. Sinceriy, Elizabeth Theil Dear Kids in the money project, I have something to tell you.... Imagine being in a world without money.... how would you live? Say if you said that I'll trade you 2 donkeys for 1 gallon of water. Do you want to carry 2 donkeys around just for one gallon of water? Say if the donkeys were sick do you want to have sick donkeys? That's how I bpersonally Think came up with money. Amber S. A World Without Money A world without money would be hard becuse you would have to trade stuff like cloth. You would have to trade hair barrettes and toys. You would have to trade big stuff for big stuff and little stuff for little stuff. So, if you don't have something big than you can't get anything big. That's why I like having real money. Aysha Ansari If there was a world without money it would be crazy . The reason it would be crazy is because if you didn't have money you could not buy things .You could trade but if you wanted something from someone but you would not have any thing that they want, give services like you could plow someones field if they could feed you. They would shine and polish the shells until they looked like glass. They would also drill a hole in them. The money the Maryland Indians made out of clam shells were called peak. They also called it wampum-peak. Peak was usually purple or white. Another kind of shell that they used was cockle, they called cockle roanke. Roanke was not polished, it was broken into pieces but it had holes drilled through it. Roanke was the least valuable money kind of like our dollars I guess. They traded with other indian tribes too. They would get copper and sea shells from other indian tribes as well as from the water where they live. Later on when the settlers came the indians started to trade with them. They would give the settlers food. They also traded beaver, otter, mink, and deer skins for tiny bells, colored beads, clay pipes, and iron knives, fish hooks, and axes. The indians also wanted guns and rifles, but the settlers would not trade guns with the indians for fear that they would hurt themselves or someone else. They also got salt and metal cooking pots. They liked matchcoats a lot. Matchcoats are a kind of cloak that was made of coarse wool. Many indians got the firearms from dishonest settlers, or from other colonies. As a matter of fact there wouldn't be anything to buy because nobody would be able to set anything up because in order to build something you have to buy materials to build anything with. I would have nothing, not even a house or a car or any clothes. Now that would be embarrassing big time!!!!!! Cut down a tree and really make me a house by a pond!!!! Sincerly a money friend, Kara Guiliano ------------------------------------------------------------------ A World With No Money If the world had no money we would have to trade with other people. We would have to depend on our neighbors. If we had to go to the hospital we would have to trade. We would not be able to get drinks from machines. If I wanted to buy a suit I would trade 8 and 1 half of a pound of fish I caught that day. I would also trade a set of books. To get food I would have to hunt or fish. I would build a home in the woods near a stream so I could 1. Fish 2. Hunt 3.Get Fire wood 4. Get water. I would sell fire wood. Kara ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.) Money is something that wasn't invented back a long, long long time ago. Before money the people traded goods for maybe goods other people had. 2.) The reason why people started using money was because people got tired of trading things because maybe some people might not have had the things that other people had wanted! He was one of those who signed the Declaration of Independence. He was born in Boston, Mass. Ashleigh DeBord ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Money is a way for people to trade. When you go to the store and buy something they give the money to the cashier and the cashier gives them whatever the paid for. People used to use stones as money but the stones were very heavy. They started to use coins and paper and this was a lot easier. A world without money would be very difficult. People have to make things and work very hard to get one thing that want. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- OUR MONEY Long ago there was no money. Early humans did not need any money they used simple trades passed down from generation to generation. For example people like to fish it would be passed down . In America if we wanted to eat fish we would go fishing or go to the grocery store. I took a survey. Four out of 7 people would go to the grocery store and spend the money then go fishing for free. Over thousands of years the way of life changed. People began to trade food and objects. What is m oney ? Money is " a thing" we use for trading/buying goods or things we need (more or less) Sometimes money is made of paper - sometimes of metal.. copper, silver and sometimes gold.. The money has to be made by the state, officially, and often money has got= =20 watermarks and/or small strings of metal in them (paper money) 2. Why did people begin using money ? Earlier "money" could be cows, fish, skins or other goods that were traded - imagine bringing 10 cows on the bus and into a store... It's better bringing $$$$ or =A3=A3=A3=A3 in your wallet... Much easier to= carry bills or coins... 3. Describe the early money. A long time ago people used to be traders... they traded animals, fish, fures or other things they grew/produced in order to get the things they needed/wanted. Norwegian fishermen went to town with their dried fish and traded it into goods like plated & glasses, clothes, ropes - even musical instruments.... Some also traded with gold or silver... The VIKING kings, who lived about a 1.000 years ago, used gold rings around their arms, and broke pieces of the ring to pay their men... Some were called teh "great Ring-breakers" because they payed their men= well.... 4. Imagine the world without money... This would be hard to do.... Or perhaps we all would carry a plastic card - and only had "virtual= money"??? We can't imagine what we should use instead..... Pretty strange if we would start trading with goods again..... 5. What ancient kongdom began with a system of money ? We know that the Roman Empire used money with "picture" of the emperor... And we have also seen old CHineese coins.... but we are not sure were the first money came from.. 6. We are not sure of that either... Perhaps the Chineese ??? Egyptians used PAPYRUS - paper very early, but we don't know if they used this for making money.. 7. Which European country was the first to print paper money ? The printing proccess was invented in Europe in the 13 century.. Before this noone in Europe could print money... Times were unstable and noone could garantee the value of a piece of= paper... We are not sure what country started, but we guess it was Great Britain... 8. Minting... is the making of money... In Norway we have the "royal Minting" at Kongsberg (a city) translated into English the word woould be: KING'S Mountain - because large amounts of silver were found in this erea=20 about 300 years ago and a city of mining and miners grew up there... 9. Who/what is found on money? A portrait of the king of Norway is found on most coins... And on Norwegian bills there are portraits of famouse people - like writers, Henrik Ibsen, and other famouse person from our history... >From 6th graders at Eydehavn & teacher Tor Arne (translation)

What a week it was! I really had no time to sit at the computer. When I came back from school I'm doing my homework, ohh I have just tons of homework! And after this I must go to work at the school theatre. I participate in a performance, all "actors" and "actresses" meet every day around 16:00. And then I go to rehearsal of Autumn Show. I'm one of pretenders to title "Miss School Autumn 96". Some people say that I have big chances but I don't think so. Well, here are answers to questions for discussion (continue):
4. People don't know such words as "buy" and "sell" at the place where there is no money. And they change their superfluous products with product that they need.
8. Minting is manufacturing of coins and printing money. There are many mints in our country and some of them are in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kuybyshev. These mints are working now. One mint was built around 250 years ago in my city and now this historical place serves as a museum.
9. There are buildings, portraits, state symbols and animals on money. Often there are portraits of head of State or very famous men or famous buildings on coins or paper bills.
I don't know answers for questions number 5, 6 and 7 and think you'll have enough answers for it and all of them will be identical.
I'll try to write about money in my country tomorrow.
