In spite of the periods established, we are sending you all the

Here are the answers to the four KIDLINK questions :

1. The currency in our country has passed through different stages and had
different names, like REIS, TOSTAO, CRUZEIRO, CRUZEIRO NOVO,
CRUZADO, CRUZEIRO and CRUZEIRO REAL. All these changes
happened because of the high inflation we always had.

2. The currency in Brazil today is REAL and CENTAVOS (cents),
and it is the only one that has been able to hold inflation back lately..

3. One REAL = 1.02 dollar.

4. Here are prices of some things in Brazil :

One pizza : R$ 10,00
One individual bottle of coke : R$ 0,70.
One ice cream : R$ 1,00.
One hamburger : R$ 4,00.
One T-shirt : R$ 12,00.
One k sugar : R$ 0,35.
One small loaf of bread (50 grams) : R$ 0,12.
One chocolate bar : R$ 0,80.
Four rolls of toilet paper : R$ 1,32.
One bubble gum : R$ 0,15.
One liter of milk : R$ 0,85.
One chocolate bar : R$ 0,80.
One bag of pop corn : R$ 0,50.
One CD : R$ 20,00.
One new car : R$ 20.000,00.
One hot dog : R$ 2,00.
One pen : R$ 0,40.
One soccer ball : R$ 10,00.
One pen : R$ 0,40.
Five kilos of rice : R$ 3,45.
One kilo of wheat flour : r$ 0,75
One pack of powder coffee : R$ 3,49.
One kilo of beef : R$ 8,00.-

For a reasonably good life, you need at least R$ 1.500,00 a month.-
The minimum wage in Brazil is R$ 112,00. It is the least
that an employer has to pay to every employee.

Thank you for the list of prices. It is $9.00 for a box of
icecream. What brand is the box of icecream? Is it a gallon
box? What different flavors do you have for icecream? My
favorite kind of icecream is chocolate chip cookie dough. An
icecream cone in the U.S.A. is $1.00 and the hamburger, the
T-shirt are the same price in the U.S.A. also. Can you buy
lunch in school in Brazil? How much does it cost? Can you buy
sodas or bags of chips? Our school lunches cost $1.25 if you
don't buy icecream. If you buy icecream it costs $1.60.

To all the kids in the money project

Hi! We are grade nine students from Mrs. Dalton's class.Since our money is worth very little today everything probably is cheap topeople in the USA. I think food is probably about the cheapest thing inthe country. All different types of food is cheap during the year becauseof the growing season for example apples are cheaper during the summer thanin the winter because of their growing season. Beef is really cheap here.My family rasies cattle so we know all about it. You can buy cows forthirty cents per pound, a good price for cows is around $1.20 per pound.Steers that are sold for meat vary in prices from eighty cents per pound toaround ninety-five cents per pound. This is the only few things that are a'good buys' in the western part of Canada. I hope that this informationwill help students in their own project.

Dear Ashley and Lisa,

We got your letter and it was very interesting and informative. Marlon goes to the States to buy his Wranglers and other stuff. In the summer I live on a ranch in Saskatchewan and am 20 miles from the American border and make frequent trips to Molta, Montana. Do you ladys know where that is ? But I (Chris) wear the cool Baggy jeans. Chris likes to live in the big cities and has been to the States before in Hawaii, and California. We go to the huge city of Bowden, Alberta which has about 700 people where we attend school. Do you have rodeos in Maryland ? Do you get MTV and is there a lot of Beavis and Butthead on T.V.? We wish this snow would go away and it would get warmer(probably not for 8 months). We have had over 46 cm this month!

Please write us back soon,

Chris and Marlon

P.S. We will soon have a webpage that you can view(we will give you the address later).
