Chinese Gazebo (Written from the perspective of the shelter itself) By Kelly McEachern
Ooh, yeaah! Here comes another bunch of people towards me! I am sure that they will look so tired from their long walk up the Coloanne trail. I hear them counting how many steps they've taken ….. 673, 674, 675…… Boy, will they enjoy sitting on my benches looking down over the peak on one of the rivers flowing from China into the South China Sea. I really hope that these people coming will recognize my fabulous architecture, the golden roof and burgundy, beautifully carved posts. I was surprised when I was eavesdropping on the last group that no one noticed the beautiful aspects of me, all they were talking about was how tired they were or, about how the next group of 6th graders weren't going to have fun on this hike! I wonder if those voices are that next group! Oh I think I see them, yep they look to be in about 6th grade, I've got to keep quiet. Ooh there they go! They seemed very happy to see me, because they were all talking about how much fun they were having and how glad they were to see me! They noticed how peaceful it was up here and really enjoyed my view of the Quarry, the reservoir and reclaimed land and they didn't even mind seeing the smokestacks and construction down below. Those are two great compliments they said about me, but the best was that they said that they could be anywhere in the world right then as they sat beneath my roof. I don't think that would have been in true if it had been rainy like the other group had because they were there in time for the good weather, unlike the morning's group. Now it is nice and sunny and they were all wearing T-shirts. I wonder if anyone else like them will come later because I usually get no attention. Sure got enough today!!
