During this whole week there are celebations throughout the country. The Dominican People gained their freedom on this date in 1844. There is a great carnival in the capital city of Santo Domingo, with many people in costumes. Our music merengue, is played and also we give tribute to our indigenous roots, many african types of music are played as well in the many parades.
