Patriot's Day - USA
by Keith Wilson

19 April

Hello, I am Keith Wilson from Lexington Massachusetts. One fun holiday that we celebrate here in Lexington is Patriot's Day. Every four years on April 19, very early in the morning, there is a reinactment of the battle of Lexington. Some people from Lexington and surrounding towns dress up in costumes like either Brittish or minutemen. They are called minutemen because they can get dressed and ready in a minute. This is what really happened. At one o'clock in the morning, Paul Revere and two other men rode through and around Lexington, warning the minutemen that "The Brittish are coming!! The Brittish are coming!!" As the 90 or so minutemen hid behind trees and shot at the thousands of Brittish, the Minutemen slowly began to die away. Later in the day, there is another battle, and this one, the minutemen won. I think the actors do an excellent job of reinacting these battles, and I like watching them. There are many other things going on other than reinactments. For instance, I am in the Boy Scouts, and we make and sell pancakes to raise money. There are several parades in which many people participate in, and some that I'm in. People from all around the world come to see the reinactments, and it is always very fun.
