New Year's Eve - USA

New Year's Eve in Texas, USA
This is great to see, I'm loving seeing all the different New Year's traditions. I just wanted to share a bit about what's happening on the Williams' homefront this evening.
Instead of going "out on the town" as many people do in the states, we prefer to get together with friends and have a traditional "Southwestern" New Year's Eve gathering. Texas is still very culturally tied to Mexico, and you can tell it in many of our traditions;>
Tonight, while we gather with friends and family to greet the New Year, we will be feasting on appetizers such as chile con queso, guacamole, pico de gallo, and pickled jalapen~os. No New Year's could be complete here without tamales, cornmeal stuffed with pork, chicken, beef or fruit and wrapped in a corn husk. (We're having pork tamales.) Something else that will be appearing in many Austin homes this evening, including ours, is "Texas Caviar"...a marinated black-eyed pea salad.
As we toast the New Year with our friends here, I'll be thinking of my KIDLINK friends, as well!
Happy New Year!
Laurie
