Christmas Customs

Dear Friends, some of us customarily celebrate during Christmas our belief that God has and continues to work in and through our lives. Just as Jewish people celebrate the Spiritual support and power of God with them, so also do we Christians remind ourselves that we have a Supernatural Friend in God's Son. For me, Christmas is more a hopeful and ongoing Vision, or way of seeing which motivates my enjoyment of the Jesse Tree, and other Advent customs. For many children, God's generous Love is embodied in Saint Nicholas, or Santa Claus, and I try to encourage them to share with others as well as celebrate received gifts. For me as an adult, I remind myself of God's Presence in symbols such as burning candles (our prayers rising to heaven), shining stars (the power and majesty of God, the Creator of all that is), decorated Christmas trees (the Comforting Presence of God's Power in Real-life Miracles), and wreaths (symbolic of our oneness with God, all of His People, and all of Earth's Creations.) Throughout the world, we each have Seasons of Joy and Hope, and sometimes we share our customs with others. This was my Vision of Christmas, my ongoing celebration of God's Presence among us in the Birth of Jesus, in God's Presence in the Eucharist, and in Christ's coming at the End of Time. I believe it is vital to share my happy Faith. What's yours? I wish Everyone on Earth(and all living Things) a very Blessed Live and much Joy and Awareness of the Miracles around us! God Bless us all! Love, Sister Dianne Mollica
