Christmas Eve // Juleaften - Denmark
by Anne Alanin
24 December
Christmas
In Denmark we celebrate Christmas the 24th of December. We allready start preparing the Christmas in November. The shops get decorated and we start thinking about Christmaspre- sents. During December we buy a Christmastree. Some people like to chop the tree themselves. A few days before Christmas we take the tree indoors and decorate it with glass globes, plaited hearts, danish flags, pixies, and a big star in the top. All the presents we put under the tree.
Christmas Eve we watch the Christmas Kalender in TV. We eat a lot of good food. Forexample we eat turkey, porkroast, roast veal, duck, goon. For desert we get rice pud- ding and icecream.
Santa Claus or "Julemanden" as we call him in Denmark, are coming Christmas Eve with the presents, and we open them at night, not in the morning as you do. We "celebrate" Christmas to the New Years Eve. The Christma- strees "goodbey" is different from family to family, sometimes it get removed before New Years Eve and sometimes after. In December we go to alot of Christmaslunches, were we eat alot of good food. That is how we celebrate Christmas in Denmark.
