St.Nicholas // Nikolaustag - Germany
by Stefan Kanngiesser

5 December

St. Nikolaus Tag

When I was little I always cleaned my shoes on the evening of Dec/5 before I went to bed and put them outside the door. When I got up the next morning, there always were sweets, nuts and oranges in it. I loved this. Knecht Ruprecht, how we call him, never visited me. On the evening of Dec/6 kids in Germany disguise as Nikolaus and go from door to door and ask for sweets. It's similar to the procedure at Halloween in the US. I loved this too, especially if it already had snowed.

Greetings from Stuttgart,
Stefan
