Three day period before Ash Wednesday which initiates the abstinance of Lent, and gives the name to the Carnival, "good-bye to meat" In Portugal, the name that the people give this three day period is "Entrudo", the commemorative name of the beginning of Lent. In various regions of Portugal, the Carnival is celebrated with costumes, parties, dances, allegorical processions etc...
