*Greetings from the Ocean State:

Our class at Narragansett Elementary School has 25 students with one teacher, Elaine Stedman. In our town we have one elementary school with 798 students in grades K-4,a middle school with grades 5-8,and a high school with grades 9-12. The three schools are all within a mile of each other. In our class we have been studying Weather and Colonial Times. We have been online following the Brazil Expedition during the Fall.

Rhode Island, one of the New England states,is the smallest state in the USA. It is 48 miles from north to south and 37 miles from east to west with an area of 1,214 square miles. RI,one of the original 13 Colonies, was settled by religious refugees. It is the site of the first Baptist church, the first Jewish synagogue, and one of the first Quaker meetinghouses.

RI is the second most densely populated state, with our most important industries being, health care, tourism, fishing and jewelry manufacturing.

Our forty miles of ocean coastline bring many tourists to our beaches in the summer. Our school is less than one mile from the Atlantic Ocean. Because of our proximity to the ocean we have a mild climate. Our average temperature in the winter is 30 degrees F and in the summer our average temp is 70 degrees F. We usually have about 44 inches of precipitation.

We are looking forward to participating in the Landmark Game.
