<A-Barb> hello John
<A-johnOst> howdy
<A-Barb> we have the writing committee here today
<A-johnOst> the writing committe? impressive
<A-Barb> that is Caprice, Kaitlyn & Rhea
<A-johnOst> welcome kids
<A-johnOst> kid writers :-)
<A-Barb> i figure it is their job to take the original 8 paragraphs and turn them into one
<A-johnOst> nice idea
<A-johnOst> manageable
*** A-Barb is now known as rhea
<A-johnOst> how can I help?
<rhea> what did you think was the most best begging
<A-johnOst> okay give me a sec here ...
<rhea> beginning
<A-johnOst> I'm looking for the beginnings in my files ... where di i pt them
<A-johnOst> I liked the bridge scene and the back pack falling off
<rhea> i sort of like tabel 1 and 7
<A-johnOst> I think there should lamost be surprise that such impt stuff is inside hte pack
<rhea> i like that
<rhea> it is probly tabel 5
<A-johnOst> i found them, let me scan for a econd
<A-johnOst> second
<rhea> ok
<A-johnOst> back
<rhea> ok
<A-johnOst> I think there are pieces to cut from each table
<A-johnOst> and then you all add a bit
<A-johnOst> for example ....
<rhea> ok that is a good idea
<A-johnOst> we need a bridge scene but why are the kids looking out over the bridge?
<A-johnOst> We need to make it clear why the kids are there ..
<A-johnOst> Maybe they see chessie and they are all excited?
<rhea> mrs shulz said to get our highlighters
<A-johnOst> maybe only the bad guys know that the formula is in the back pack
<A-johnOst> get the hightlighters
*** rhea is now known as Kati
<A-johnOst> table 2 -- jas pack floating and bad guys with weapons
<A-johnOst> jas=has
<A-johnOst> table 7 -- is a good style of writing, mentions formula and oh gosh chessie has it
<A-johnOst> table 4 -- dad's only copy -- cool
<A-johnOst> table 1 -- makes it clear that formula got mixed with homework
<A-johnOst> table 5 -- neat idwea in that backpack is first with dad, maybe you have to retireve the backpack from the office, in his rush he puts the formula in hte pack
<Kati> we are highlighting the parts you like
<A-johnOst> table 6 -- bincoulars, on the bridge looking at chessie and then backpack falls in
<A-johnOst> WHY?
<A-johnOst> one possible idea: what if one of hte kids on the trip is the son or daughter of a competing company or spry group wanting the formula?
<Kati> we like idea of retreiving backpack from office
<A-johnOst> what if that person tried to tgrab the pack and it fell into the water?
<A-johnOst> the office is a good ...
<A-johnOst> you can still start with a scene where your on the bridge and it falls in the water
<A-johnOst> then maybe dad even rushes up in a car just as the pack floats away
<Kati> what about the competing company
<A-johnOst> okay ...
<Kati> good idea
<A-johnOst> I'm not sure what is best yet
<A-johnOst> I kind of like a kid working on both sides ... one for hte good guys, one for the bad guys
<A-johnOst> I also could see dad rushing to the bridge ta hte last minute with the pack from his office
<Kati> sounds good
<A-johnOst> or dad rushing at the last minute wanting to see the pack because he figured out the formula was inside
<A-johnOst> and he arrives as it falls into the ocean ...
<Kati> yeah
<A-johnOst> or bad guys at work slip the formula into the pack
<A-johnOst> ask therir kid to get it but the pack falls in the ocean
<A-johnOst> and chessie takes it
<A-johnOst> now there is a bad guy good guy chase to fins the pack
<A-johnOst> fins=find
<Kati> pretty good
<A-johnOst> well these ideas come from what you already wrote
<Kati> thanks
<A-johnOst> So now your job is making a deciosn for hte group about which way might be best to go and try to use something from each table
<A-johnOst> make everyone know they own a piece of htis story right from the start
<Kati> it makes every one from each table happy
<A-johnOst> yup and they deserve it because they all worked hard and contributed a good idea
*** Kati is now known as Caprice
<A-johnOst> Hi "C" :-)
<Caprice> Let me think how to start
<A-johnOst> Use one of the seven for your starting point and change it around
*** a-hanne (~kidirc@universe.kidlink.org) has joined #mystery
<A-johnOst> table seven writes very clearly but doesn't have all the elements
<A-johnOst> welcome hanne from denmark!!!!
<a-hanne> hi john and who else
<Caprice> Oh no my back pack is in the water
*** Caprice is now known as A-Barb
<A-johnOst> Caprice, Kaitlyn & Rhea and barbara
<A-Barb> hanne, my kids will return email to yours sometime today
<a-hanne> great - I don't see my students until friday morning
<A-Barb> we are discussing alternatives to Chessie, but still working with Chessie at this end
<A-Barb> maybe we can start with chessie and he drops it near denmarks shore...
<A-johnOst> yup ..
<A-johnOst> and then the kids in Denmark have to follow a map also inside that pack and take formula somewhere
<A-Barb> & it floats to your students - our biggest concern with the floating was that it would realiistically take so  long
<A-johnOst> chessiw could dump it on shore -- a fast bottle-in-the-water delivery
<A-Barb> I'll let the girls continue with john...
*** A-Barb is now known as caprice
<A-johnOst> If I may say to Hanne really quickly ...
<a-hanne>
<A-johnOst> The story decisions in Denmark do not have ot change in drastic ways because
<A-johnOst> we can build and put htinhgs into the pack in Maryland that will h help the story when the pack gets to Denm, ark
<A-johnOst> the trick then is keeping all the kids incvolved so that md kids can play a role in denmark
<A-johnOst> or follow their own mystery problems in MD as well
<a-hanne> ok , but can you tell me a little more about the other danish class who have joined the project
<A-johnOst> I'm done chattering
<A-johnOst> sorry kids
*** caprice is now known as A-Barb
<A-Barb> yes about the other class...john?
<A-johnOst> yes?
<A-Barb> I sent Bente an email and had no response yet - any details u can add
<A-johnOst> nope .. Bente is very new
<A-johnOst> may be really nervous and wants to watch
<A-johnOst> I don't know yet
<A-Barb> that's ok - does she do irc?
<a-hanne> how many students and what grade
<A-johnOst> your grade level I think Hanne
<a-hanne> it seems
*** a-hanne (~kidirc@universe.kidlink.org) has left #mystery

<a-Hanne> now we are sitting here - today i recieved a letter from 4 of your students
<A-Barb> It's ok, the kids are still young & sensitive - I hope they stated it without hard feelings
<A-Barb> yes - we have divided the class into 6 commmittees
<A-Barb> it is hard to work with 28
<A-Barb> the four you heard from got the ideas from the rest of the class and did the emailing
<A-Barb> what is your students responses for ideas other than Chessie?
<A-Barb> are
<a-Hanne> yes that's the problem...
<a-Hanne> we like the idea of the paper with the formular...
<a-Hanne> but we are in doubt how the paper come to us
<a-Hanne> but a suggestion couldbe that...
<A-Barb> Hanne, I need to log off & then come back on so that the log doesn't erase the one from last time - so we can send this one to John
<a-Hanne> the two groups don't need to be involved in the mystery
<A-Barb> so hang on - I'll be right back -OK?
<A-Barb> ok?
<a-Hanne> how long time do you think it will take
<A-Barb> just a minute or two
