Princess Diana Mother Teresa Betinho As you write your "My Hero and Me" entries, please remember that heroes can come from all walks of life. They could be parents, teachers, family members, friends or even famous people. Over the past week, we have lost two very important women who have brought our attention to important issues that might have otherwise gone unnoticed, both helping tremendously in improving the life and welfare of mankind throughout the world: Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. These two women were so different, but so alike in some ways. Princess Diana was in the limelight doing her work, while Mother Teresa did her work while living a very simple life. Both women were very dedicated in their work and in what they believed. Both did tremendous work helping the sick, poor, and needy. Both women did their work out of love. Both will be greatly missed by everyone throughout the world who were touched by their kindness and dedication. We must also not forget the people from Brazil who lost one of their great heroes recently. Herbert Jose de Souza, or "Betinho" as he is commonly known. He was Brazil's champion of democracy, a fighter against poverty. Here was a person that spent his life fighting issues of inequity affecting the street children, senior citizens and the landless peasants in Brazil. Betinho fought to make life better for those living in poverty within his country. He will be greatly missed by the citizens of Brazil! Are you beginning to see things these three great people have in common? Is there a hero in your country you would like to tell us about? Please feel free to write about any of these three heroes, or any other hero of your choice. We are looking forward to you sharing with us. |
