MY HERO AND ME

RESPONSES

Israel

My hero is my brother, Danny, because he is a soldier in the army. He
fights in the war and that demands courage. He is in Lebanon. When he
comes home, we go shopping. He buys me a lot of things. My brother and I
are good friends. He tells me everything and vice versa. In the summer, we
go to the beach and to the pool. He has a sense of humor. He loves animals
such as our dog and cat. My brother is smart. He tells me that he wants to
be a lawyer and I think that he can be just that. He helps me study English
and mathematics. His being very smart helps me. I learned how to cook from
him, and how to be a good person. He's a wonderful brother. Sometimes, he
cleans my room and washes the dishes. And at night, he gives me a kiss. I
so love my brother!

Tsippi Ankar

My hero is Rav Eifergan. Why? Because he has special, supernatural powers
that Hashem (G-d) granted him. He helps many people. His nickname is "X
ray" because he can see a person and tell you all about his past and what
will happen in the future.

Here's some examples. A man was disabled for many, many years and couldn't
stand on his legs and Rav Eifergan helped the man to walk. There was a deaf
man and a blind man that the Rav helped. They began to see and to hear.

For me, a hero is not obliged to overcome traumatic situations. For me, a
hero is a person that helps people.

Liron Ohaun

Note: A Rav or Rabbi is a Jewish religious leader.

My hero is G-d because He created us and he protects all the world and he
does miracles. He's my hero because He made me. And He gave me a family
and friends to help me.

Keren Gidoni

My hero is Hashem (G-d) because he watches over me all of the time, and he
watches over Israel. He does this because he loves us and wants to do this
only out of His goodness. We believe that He exists.

Hashem can do anything. He makes miracles for Israel. For example, He took
us out of Egypt. He fought for us. He gives me feelings of security. When
I eat I bless Him everyday. Hashem has given us a precious gift, the Torah.

Shani

My mother is my heroine. She's my heroine because I learn things from her
that are good and educational. She teaches me everything. I love my mother.

Mazal Sofer

My hero is Ha Kadosh Baruchu (G-d) because He can do anything. He makes
miracles. He is The Strong One. He loves everybody and everybody loves Him.
Ha Kadosh Baruchu is very good for me and for everybody.

Ortal Hsidim

My heroine is my mother because she stands behind me and how well I am
learning, and also because of how I am not angry with my friends. When they
fight with me or when I want something and they won't give it to me, I don't
get angry because she helps me not to be angry and to forgive my friends.

My father helps my mother and they love me. When I will have children, G-d
willing, I will give them what my parents give me -- love.

Osnat

My hero is my brother. He teaches me a lot of things about life and
learning. He pressures me to learn. He says that it is very important to
learn. And he gives me many gifts. His girlfriend, Keren, comes from
France, so he goes there a lot and he brings me back many gifts from there.
And it is very important for me to say this -- I love him very much!

Carmit Biton

Shimrit Bochnik

My hero is the army -- all the corps -- because they guard our country. The
Magen (The Shield) is very, very good and all of Israel loves the army.
They give their lives for us. They sleep outside in the Spring, Winter,
Summer and Fall. We miss them. We want them to be healthy.

I will be different because they watch over me. If the army doesn't guard
me, there isn't anybody to guard me.

Yael Assulin

My heroes are all our soldiers. They are my heroes because they protect us
and they kill our enemies for us. They don't sleep at night. They are the
best. They give up a lot of things. They don't see their family, their
sisters and brothers. They give their lives for us. I am different
because of them and all Israel is different because of them, because I'm
alive and all of Israel is alive.

Revital Malka

My heroes are the 73 soldiers who just fell in the helicopter accident
tragedy in Israel, because they protected the country. They went into the
army and they knew that they could get killed. They were on a mission to
protect us.

I will be different because of them. I know that soldiers are not movie
stars. They protect us from our enemies and they are great heroes. But now
I can't do anything -just pray to Hashem (G-d) and hope that He will do
something, like maybe help them in heaven.

Yamit Assulin

My hero is Kevin Richardson. Why? Because he is a great personality. He
helps people that have cancer. People can trust him with their eyes closed.
How will I be different because of him? I have started to respect people
and give charity to people.

Mirit Hillel

My heroes are our soldiers. They are the basis of our country. They give
everything to guard everybody. They do it with all of their heart. They
do their work in dangerous circumstances for everybody, and without them we
wouldn't have a country.

I really hope for them that we will not have wars, and that we will have
peace. And if this happens, the soldiers will not need to be killed for
everybody in Israel. They inspire me to help everybody and to love everyone.

Mirit Sofer

My hero is my grandfather, because he was a righteous man with some
supernatural powers. He also had an ability to convince people who were
close to him. He loved everyone. One day, my grandfather went to the
parade in the center of town and he saw a drunk man there. He decided to
speak with him about his feelings and all about what's happening in his
life. They talked, and my grandfather decided to help him and to cheer him
up. (Since then, they decided to stay in touch and help each other.)

I learned from my grandfather how to help people and to cheer them up until
they can also see the "sky's blue". I hope that all people will have a
great time in their lives and when it happens, they will say "Thanks, G-d,
for all you have done for us." And then Mashiach (The Messiah) will come.

I don't have any "heroes" as I don't think that people should love a
famous person!
I do "appreciate" people though, such as Yitzhak Rabin, who was our
Prime Minister until he was murdered just over a year ago whilst looking
for peace between us and our Arab neighbors; I also appreciate good
singers such as the Israeli Pop singer Arik Einstein; but most of all I
appeciate my sister and especially my father, because he is a wise man.
He thinks about other people's feelings and the best thing he is always
there for me.
From: Galit Bornstein - 8th Grade - Kibbutz Neve Eitan High School,

My hero is my father because he is a very strong man and he was in many
dangerous situations and dealt with each one successfully. For example, my
father was in prison in Sudan because he was Jewish. We were trying to
escape from Ethiopia to Israel by way of Sudan. In prison, they beat him so
hard that until this day sometimes he has pain. After prison, my father
helped many people to immigrate to Israel secretly. This is how his two
brothers immigrated to Israel, at night, in 1976. And all his 5 sisters
came to Israel by way of Sudan. Our family came in 1990 when I was eight
years old. Now all of our family is here. And my father is very pleased to
live in Israel, and he is dealing nicely with the language and all the
changes, and he has many friends. My father is a very funny man. But he has
hardships, too. For example, finding work. Because of all this, my father
is my hero. All of my family says "Thank you" to Hashem (G-d) for
everything.

NOTE from Vered's teacher: I was so fascinated by Vered's story that I
asked her to tell me more. Vered told me the following, almost all of it in
English, her third language:

                        ********************************************

"I was eight years old when we came to Israel in 1990. I remember Ethiopia
very well. I liked living in our little village very much. We had plenty of
everything. We had cows, sheep, goats--everything.
We would slaughter our own meat so that we could eat it kosher. But it was
very hard for us to be Jewish there. We had to keep it a secret. We tried
not to tell the neighbors that we were Jewish, but they usually found out.
They figured it out, because we kept the Sabbath (the Jewish Sabbath is on
Saturday), and Passover and all the Jewish holidays. In the streets, people
would curse us because we were Jewish.
"In school, it was very, very hard for us. The teachers were Christain.
Some of them knew that we were Jewish, and respected it. But other
teachers, when they found out, forced us to kiss their cross and to say
their prayers, which we don't believe in. A few neighbors were nice to us
even after they found out that we were Jewish, but most hated us. My
Uncles left in 1976, during Operation Moses (the famous airlift of
Ethiopian Jews). But we didn't leave until 1990. My family is
very happy in Israel because we can live as religious Jews, with other
religious Jews, and it doesn't have to be in secret."
Vered is in the 10th grade at Amit Ulpanit High School in Safed, Israel. I
am honored to have her in my class. - Chana Schulman

Ahova Malamo

My heroes are our soldiers. They sacrifice themsleves for us. They are out
there in the cold for us. They are out there in danger to protect us. They
inspire me to help people. They inspire me to love my country and
especially to love and to wait for peace so that they will return home.

Mirit Hillel

My heroes are our soldiers. They are the basis of our country. They give
their all to protect everybody. They do it with all their heart. They
inspire me to help everybody.

Tal Hadad

My hero is the Israel Defense Force, because the I.D.F shields us from our
enemies and they are a very, very good army. And we will be different
because of them. I will be more safe and more protected. I am very, very
proud of them. And I pray that they will be all right.

Mical Cohen

My heroes are our soldiers because they protect us. Without them, we would
be murdered.

Riki Lichy

My hero is G-d because He is big and he sustains the world. He gave us the
Torah and He gives us life and He can take it back. He teaches us to be
good people, just like He is good to us, and to live with justice. G-d is
very good and merciful. G-d gives us life and because of this I know that
He loves everybody. I believe in G-d and I know that he is big enough to
handle everything. Because of this, He is my hero.

Mazal Cohen

My hero is Yitzhak Rabin, may his memory be blessed. Why? Because he was a
very, very great man. Although most of his life he took part in Israeli
wars as a military leader, at the end of his life he changed direction and
he began to fight for peace.

Not many people have the courage that Yitzak Rabin had. It is not easy to
give up something you believe in, something that you have done all your
life. But Yitzhak Rabin, may his memory be blessed, had the courage to
fight for peace with the same power that he used to fight in the wars with.

1922 - 1995 : Yitzhak Rabin, blessed be his memory

Meytal Kadosh

My hero is Nati Ravich because he is such a good actor in the drama, Kefef
Katlani. He has a beautiful woman. He plays in "Ahim Hasrey Manooch". He
is very handsome. If I have a dream, it is to meet him and Tom Cruze. I
want to say, "Nati, I love you."

Hodaya Ben Abbo

My heroine is Eden Harel. She is famous in Israel and she plays on T.V.
out here, in the country of Israel. And this is hard work. I will be
different because of her. I will do all that I want to do. Eden Harel
said, "All that you want, if you want it, you can do it."

Hila Dhan

My hero is Kevin Richardson. Why? Because he is a great personality. He
helps people that have cancer. Many people love him because they can tell
him something and he will do it. He loves to help people. Everybody can
trust him with their eyes closed. I think that what he is doing is very,
very good. If someone needs help, he is very happy to help them.

Tammy Bachar

*My hero is Gary Barlow, the singer of "Take That", because he writes
really beautiful songs that really touch my heart. His songs show exactly
how I feel. He inspires me very much. He makes me work harder because he
works hard, and when I hear his songs I feel good.
