Dit is de Nederlandse vlag. Ik heb mijn vader gevraagd of hij iets wist over de Nederlandse vlag. Die wist het ook niet percies dus heeft hij een boek voor mij opgezocht. Daarin staat dit :

De befaamde Nederlandse driekleur, bekend als de prinsenvlag, werd al in 1572 door de piraten in dienst van Willem van Oranje gebruikt. De banen vertegenwoordigen de kleuren van zijn livrei van oranje, wit en blauw, die zijn afgeleid van de wapens van Oranje en van Nassau. De drie- kleur werd voornamelijk op zee gebruikt en waarschijnlijk omdat oranje op zee niet erg kleurvast bleek, veranderde de kleur langzamerhand in rood, hoewel oranje in bebruik bleef als nationale kleur. Het rood-wit-blauw vormde naderhand de inspiratiebron voor de vlaggen van New York en Zuid-Afrika.

Mijn vader vertelde ook nog, dat tsaar Peter de Grote van Rusland naar Nederland kwam om te leren hoe houten schepen geboud moesten worden. Toen hij terug kwam heeft hij voor Rusland de rood-wit-blauwe vlag ingevoerd, maar dan wit-blauw-rood.

Translation:

This is the Dutch flag. I've asked my father if he knew something about the Dutch flag. He also didn't know exactly so he looked up a book (The world of flags,by William Crampton.) for me.

It says:

The famous Dutch 3-colour, known as the flag of the prince, was used already in 1572 by the pirates serving for Willem van Oranje (William of Orange). The bars represent the colours of his livery: orange, white and blue, these are derived from the family-arms of Orange and Nassau. The 3-colour was mainly used at sea and probebly because orange at sea wasn't very fast-dyed, they changed the colour slowly, to red, although orange is still the Dutch national colour.
The red-white-blue inspired later New York and South-Africa for their flags.

My Dad also told me that czar Peter (the Great?) of Russia came to Holland to study the shipbuilding. (Zaandam 1697) When he came home he had introduced a red, white and blue flag but he turned the colours.(white, blue, red)
