I am the Assistant State Archivist for the State of Arizona.
I have done family history researh for years and also am finishing my PhD in History. I also am very familiar with research in Arizona, where to look for records for Mexican-Americans,
I'm Marta Barbachano Sherwood and have been doing roots- search for a few years now. I've been able to find quite a bit of information on the Sherwood side in Penn. and that has been encouraging, plus it has been a good learning experience.
What a great idea- Having history dovetail into your own family's history. It does make it more exciting, doesn't it?
My oldest student began studying Scotland because her g-g-ggrandmother's last name was McLelland- that last name was the springboard for a year of study that included history, literature, music, dance, language, geography and even study into English history.
This year we would like to research our Mexican Roots, but haven't yet been able to secure a birth or baptismal certificate for my grandfather, b. in 1887-1889 in Acapulco, Mexico. Can you give us some ideas on how to go about this search?
The last name is Barbachano, which is not very common, so, hopefully, once we know how to go about this, we'll be able to find documentation quickly.
We would appreciate your help-
