Joyce McManus
Hello to all!
We really have some great volunteers already!
I am Joyce Cannon McManus from Greenwood, South Carolina. I work as an IBM AS/400 and PC troubleshooter and accountant. I am planning to retire at least to part time in 1999 and enjoy my grandchildren.
I began my family research only 4 years ago when a "cousin" of my husband's from Kansas contacted us on a thread of hope that we were relatives he was trying to locate. I talked about doing genealogy for several years, and I am sorry I didn't get started in the eighties while my husband's elderly aunt could have answered so many questions. She was the family historian of sorts, leaving us written articles about their family.
Because of her colorful stories and these written records, we knew we were the relatives this "cousin" wanted to find. We supplied each other with missing pieces we otherwise would not have found. This experience was the spark I needed for motivation into my family roots as well.
Most of our ancestors are from VA, NC, SC, MO, KS and MS. Names I am researching (or in my database) are

My first cousin has done an extensive research of his Dad's and my Mom's family back to VA, PA, Surry Co., England (1601), and Basses-Alpes, France (1630). He discovered in his search Easley, SC was named for our 5th g grandfather, John EASLEY, JR, b. bef 1741; d. bef 1786 in Greenville Co., SC. He was born in VA., and grandparents were from France. This was exciting for me!
I'm looking forward to helping our young students. My area in SC holds lots of history. I have information and brochures on Ninety Six, SC re Star Fort (Revolutionary battles), Indian trails, first settlements, and much more.
I hope I can be of help to someone. May your roots diggings be properous and fun!
Joye
