Good morning, all!
Hope everyone in the US is having a good Labor Day weekend. And for you
who do not live in the states, hope your weekend is going well :-))
I've been diggin' roots for about 10 years now. My family, like most, has
many, many genealogical brick walls to try and break through. It is the
puzzle aspect that intrigues me so much. And I am really enjoying the
sense and feel of history I get as I go through old documents and records.
I try to feel more connected to my ancestors by seeing what they did in
their lives, even though I hafta dig like crazy to find out the facts and
possibilities.
The earliest possible ancestor I know on my LOVELACE side is Benajmin
LOVELACE of Frederick Co., MD, born in 1727. I can't definitely connect to
him yet, but am working on it. My earliest definite ancestor is William
LOVELACE b. 1815 in Rutherford Co., NC. And that's where my father was
born in 1917 and grew up. So my family has been there for almost 200
years. Seem like I should be able to find proof of William's father, don't
you think? <hahaha> Yeah, right........
Anyway, I live on the coast of NC, about 300 miles from my area of research
:-( I work for the University of North Carolina as a research scientist
in microbiology and water pollution. My younger daughter Maya is trying to
make up her mind which of the KIDLINK projects she's going to join, since
she's a brand new KIDLINKer. She has her own genealogy database started,
so I hope she's going to join this project. But I've learned not to push!
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and let it be known to the teachers
where my roots are: Maryland to Western NC. I also own and operate a
LOVELACE mailing list on RootsWeb, a genealogical data co-op which hosts
about 1500 different genealogical mailing lists. I think there's a link to
RootsWeb on the KIDROOTS web page, right Diane?
OK, OK....enough! Hope to hear from the kids soon! And feel free to email
me with questions!
Peace,
Part of the Tree,
Greg Lovelace
