INTRODUCTIONS
FROM PRIMARY FIVE
MAZ INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Malaysia
[Nick][Haris]
Hello from Kuala Lumpur,
We are a class of students
who are living in Malaysia because our parents either worked overseas in
the past few years or we are here because our families are expatriates
who have been employed to work in Malaysia. An expatriate is a foreigner
who is temporarily living in another country. Our ancestors may have
once been expatriates or free settlers - I know mine were.
So we are a very colourful
lot. Most of the class are learning English as a second language.
They are a very talented lot when it comes to language.
Our School began about 8
years ago. There is a shortage of educational facilities here in
Malaysia to cater to the large numbers of children who need an education.
We began as a little tuition centre with twelve students who were from
Australia.
The school then saw the
need for children of foreign pilots and children of foreign university
lecturers to find a suitable place to continue their education in Malaysia.
Maz International School was born. Our school is privately
funded. Although the Malaysian Education Department regulates much
of what goes on there.
We have more than 400 students.
The school is hoping to expand in the future to a very large campus with
boarding facilities. Our present location grew out of an urgent need.
The new school will be designed for a larger number of students.
Kuala
Lumpur was ruled by the British up until 40 years ago when it gained independence.
The town was founded because of the extensive tin mining carried out here
in the early part of this century. We are a multi-cultural society
with Chinese, Indian & Malays the predominant races.
