LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
Mississippi Horizons School, Brainerd, Minnesota, USA

Hi, and welcome from Mississippi Horizons. We are a new technology
magnet school in Brainerd, Minnesota, USA. Our school has about 560
students in grades six through nine. We range in age from 11 to 15
years old. Our class is in eighth grade and the class of 2002. We are
13 and 14 years old.

We have lots of technology. We have about five computers in each
classroom and a number of computers in other media labs. We do a lot of
computer related projects. We also have Internet access, digital
cameras, a TV studio and an editing room. Dr. Munns, our principal
said, "The most important thing in our school is that the kids are
learning to use computers as tools, not as toys."

We have school from 8:10 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. Our bell sounds like a tone,
not a bell. The fire alarm sounds like a gym teacher blowing a whistle.

Our rules are called the First Class Program. We treat each other with
dignity and respect. We use appropriate language. We keep our school
neat and clean. We solve our problems by stopping, thinking, and
discussing our actions.

We don't wear uniforms, but we do have rules about what we can wear. We
can wear any kind of clothes that we want except if the clothes have
something like pornography or swearing or ads for tobacco or alcohol.

Brainerd is kind of small, but we have an amusement park called Paul
Bunyanland. There are lots and lots of lakes here. People like to come
here in the summer to fish and swim. There is also a racetrack called
Brainerd International Raceway. In the winter this is a great place to
snowmobile.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Eighth Grade - Karen Ogdahl, Teacher
