Hi! This is Mrs. Loehfelm's eighth-grade class in North Carolina. We are here to tell you about an annual festival that happens here in Raleigh, our state capital. The North Carolina State Fair is a brigade of people, sights, sounds, smells, and wonderful things to do. It takes place in October every year and lasts for about ten days. Step right up! Only one dollar to try and get a ring around the bottle! If you do, you can win one of these fabulous prizes! Barkers call left and right, trying to get you to play their Midway games. Many people willingly respond by paying, then playing. Prizes, ranging from beachballs and pencils to stuffed animals and goldfish, tempt you to play. Mountains of salt, globs of ketchup, and rivers of sizzling, popping grease run over every french fry. Salt water taffy machines clunk like robots, twisting their cargo into unearthly shapes. Powdered sugar and cinnamon sprinkle like snow over the delectable funnel cake pastries. Wispy-pink clouds of cotton candy harden then melt in the mouth. Under an array of bright lights the slowly rosted, buttery corn glistens with drizzled butter. Many factors contribute to a sense of overall excitement. As you walk by the roller coaster, the wheels squeal and squeek, and the scent of burned rubber fills the air. Rides flipping, turning, whirling, while buzzers ding and people scream. Vendors advertise their wares. Clever charlatans ask the crowd to play their games to win prizes. Colorful toys and bright lights dazzle everyone. The crowd rushes around bustling like bees in a flowery meadow, flowing and churning around lines which stretch, seemingly, to infinity. The fair is enjoyable chaos.
