STOCKHOLM
Hello
We are six girls from Stockholm ,the capital of Sweden.
Stockholm is on the east coast of Sweden.
We have about 8.5 million inhabitants.
The weather in the winter is pretty cold and sometimes some snow.
In the summer it could be warm but it also rains a lot.
In the north of Sweden we can go skiing on our small mountains range.
In the summer you could do a lot of things and it`s a very beautiful
country ,with many big forests.
STOCKHOLM WATER FESTIVAL
Every summer since 1993 in August we have a big festival, called
Stockholm water festival. It is during ten days with a lot of things to
see and to do. Many tourists come to look at the big festival. There
is a lot of food from other countries ,but of course also from Sweden.
There are a lot of shops along the streets. There are some competitions
and shows. The biggest thing of the festival is in the evening ,when
they have a firework-competition with many other countries ,which are
participating. It is very beautiful and very popular.
THE STOCKHOLM ARCIPELAGO
Stockholm is situated by the Baltic sea. Outside the city there are
lots of islands. Several of them are small and uninhabited with only
trees and cliffs. Others are larger and with many
summerhouses. On these islands there are lots of bridges with boats.
Some of them are motorboats and and some of them are sailingboats.
It is possible to take a regular boat from the City Hall in Stockholm
out to the archipelago. One of the most beautiful things is when you
get up at about five o'clock in the morning to take up the fishing net.
Then you just sit and look out at the calm sea and see how the sun is
reflecting in the water.
GLOBEN
Globen is a giant building in the southern of part of Stockholm. It has
a very particular shape. It looks like a huge White ball and the top of
it can be seen from everywhere in Sockholm. Inside it consists of a very
large arena with seats all around. In the arena you can arrange for
different performances. For example it is used for ice-hockey or other sport arrangements. It is also used for concerts with cassi music played by
symphonic orchestras. For example once a year there is a laser show
with classical music. At the end they play the 1812 by Tchaikovski
and at the end they are firing real cannons. Of course they are not using
real amunition. Another impressive yearley performance is the Lucia
concert. It is a celabration on the 13th December that we have here in
Scandinavia. In the concert there are about 2000 youths from a music
school in Stockholm who are singing and everyone has a candle and
wears a long white dress and they spread around among the audience.
It is very beautiful.
