Peace Mound Park is a very wonderful and unique park in Weston,
Florida that sits on the edge of the Florida Everglades in a planned
community. The park has fascinating activities. It is beautiful grounds
that used to belong to the Native Americans. Come along on our journey and
learn why we're so proud of "our" interesting park.
We are proud of Peace Mound Park because it is in the vicinity of
our hometown. It is very unique because the Tequesta Indians lived here
hundreds of years ago and buried their dead here. To this very day, the
burial ground still exists there. Artifacts have been found on this site
such as tools that they used, canoes used to help them travel, and pottery.
Peace Mound Park has a lush environment and looks like a beautiful
picture. There are many palm trees used for shade and many beautiful green
plants. The grass makes a soft cushion to sit on. It also has a shiny
crystal blue lake where bass and garr swim. There is a bridge in the park.
There is a replica of a chickee where the Indians once lived. You can
almost feel the spirit of the Indians. You can imagine the Tequesta
Indians telling stories around the open fires. There are paths in the park
that you can bike, rollerblade, or walk on. The playground reminds us that
we are invited ot use the park.
Peace Mound has exciting activities to offer. You can enjoy lunch
by the crystal blue lake. After you have lunch you can stand on the bridge
and fish. You can see people walking on the nature trail. When you walk
on the nature trail you pass the Indian burial ground. You can enjoy
climbing the large trees. If you read the plaque you can learn about the
early settlers. If you go to Peace Mound Park, please try these
activities.
We will do our best as local citizens to keep this park alive and
well. The fascinating history, the beautiful appearance, and the outdoor
activities, all make us proud of our park. If you ever travel to Weston,
Florida, be sure to visit Peace Mound Park.
