Subject Intro from C.W. Otto Middle School,Lansing, Michigan,

Greetings we are located at 42 degrees N. latitude and 84 degrees W.longitude. The population is about 130,000. We are the smallest of the four public middle schools in the city and have an enrollment of approximately 800 students, grades 6, 7, and 8. We are a 6th grade social studies class and our teacher is Mrs. Johnson. We have had a very difficult year. There are 5 teachers on our team and in December our science teacher had a bone marrow transplant for leukemia. In January our English teacher suffered a stroke. In February our reading teacher's husband, the former principal of our school, died unexpectedly. In March, Mr. Martin, our science teacher, died. We have had many substitute teachers. Lansing is sometimes called Tree City, USA.Yesterday we had a special ceremony to plant a tree for Arbor Day, and we dedicated the tree to Mr. Martin and Mr. Riley.Mrs. Johnson's classes usually participate in many Internet contests, but we missed the Landmark Contest this year. This is our first contest of the year and are looking forward to having fun with Famous Explorers! Two famous people who grew up in Lansing, Michigan, are Magic Johnson and Stevie Wonder!Mrs. Johnson's Class
