Virtual Eritrea

August 30-31, 1997 Report

This is our first report sent from Sweden (not by satellite). We are now making preparations for the journey. Questions and participations are flowing in from the world.

We might answer some of them before we leave but mostly you will get your answers from our reports or when we get back.

The Camp!

30-31st of August 1997

We arrived on Saturday, to our camping place next to the lake called Fargen (The Big Color). The reason why we had the camp was that we wanted to get to know each other a little bit more before we leave. We started to practice Swedish dancing and singing. When we soon will come to Eritrea we want to have something Swedish to show them. We did quite well!! After a while.....

During the day we ate a medicine against cholera. It was a medicine that you were supposed to mix with water. It tasted bad even though it was mixed with a taste of raspberry.

At the TableThen Asha and Solayman came and cooked Eritrean food for us to eat. It took a long time to cook it but it was worth waiting for!! During the dinner they talked about their country. We learned a lot. Asha and Solayman have lived in Sweden for a long time but they have both grown up in Eritrea.

Sleeping in our BagsThen we made our beds. We were going to sleep outside on a veranda. We ate crisps and a lot of candy (Fredric's father owns a candy factory) and we chatted.

Then, after a while we went to bed.

When we finally woke up the next morning, one and a half hour too late we ate breakfast. After breakfast we started talking about what to bring when we'll go to Eritrea. The list was long but we can't pack too much because we will have to carry everything with us all the time because we are moving around and not staying at the same place.

12 o'clock a woman named Marie Hesselman came. She has been in Eritrea two times and we talked to her and asked her questions. It was real good because she could give answers to all our questions and now we know a lot more than we did before. So thanks to her we can go to Eritrea all calm. Almost..........
