Danni

Around the World

Omerzu Homeschool

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Danni visiting Jeff Sat, 3 Jul 1999
Well I finally arrived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on June 30th. Luckily Jeff is homeschooled so I could still visit. I had quite the journey - I spent the weekend in Winnipeg Manitoba at customs - there was a problem with the shipping information so they had to wait to find out where I was supposed to go. All's well though now - I arrived safe and sound although I was in need of a wash and rest before we start our visiting. Jeff's Mom made me a new outfit for my stay here - wait 'til you see me!

Yesterday was Canada Day - Happy Birthday Canada! Jeff's family took me to their favourite place - Fort Edmonton, a historical park. I learned a lot about Edmonton's history and how people lived here over a hundred years ago. Jeff's uncle took lots of pictures of me at the park - Jeff and I are going to make a picture album of my visit. Many people asked about me and were surprised to hear I am from Brazil and have travelled so far. They hope I enjoy my visit to Edmonton.

We are also going to go to the museum and maybe to the zoo if it doesn't rain again. We had a HUGE thunderstorm last night with lots of thunder & lightening and rain!

So far I have met many of Jeff's friends - they are all nice! Jeff's Dad is going to send a picture of me from his work so keep watching. ;-)

I miss my friends in Brazil and hope you are all having a nice break. I look forward to seeing you all when I get back home.

Hugs, Danni

Goodbye, Danni

Tue, 13 Jul 1999
Racing Danni Well, it's time to say good-bye to our new friend, Danni. By the time this message shows up, Danni will be on his way back to Brazil. We had a wonderful time with him here. He met many of Jeff's friends who thought he was really neat. They especially liked seeing the things he brought with him from Brazil and Norway.

Our school year was over by the time Danni came to us but we were able to take him sight-seeing and our friends here all gave him some things to remind him of his visit.

We celebrated Canada Day together at Fort Edmonton. We also went to the Provincial Museum. There we learned about the life of a child growing up in Nunavut - a new territroy in Canada's far north. In Edmonton in winter we use ski-doos as recreation - in Nunavut Territory and Canada's north they are used almost year round for transportation. There were many other displays and Danni's book is filled with pictures of many of them.

Danni saw a waterfall in a most unlikely place - the High Level Bridge. Edmonton is on relatively flat land - except for the river running through its middle. The river water is pumped up to the top of the High Level Bridge and flows out of a sprinkler like hose across the bridge. It looks just like a real waterfall. It is turned on only on special days like Canada Day.

There were visits and parties and a lot of quiet cuddling time. Thank you to our new friends at Colegio Rio Branco (and Marcia) for sharing their Danni with us and for waiting so patiently for his return. Thanks also to Diane Smith and Jeanne Rose for their assistance is having him come here. It has been a wonderful experience. Bon Voyage, Danni!
