Story Board
Description:
The "Building Bridges" project is designed to help us
bridge language barriers that keep us from understanding each other. We
use Art, photographs and sound as special ways to communicate about our
everyday life. Within each topic of the project teachers are encouraged
to incorporate desired learner outcomes that stem from their curriculum
guides.
Objectives:

To support greater communication for students across languages
using Art, images and sounds

To celebrate our cultural diversity

To enhance learner outcomes for participating students according
to their school's curriculum guide
Timeline:
This project began informally in 1993 and continues indefinitely.
We welcome all students from all countries to participate in their native
language.
Topics and Activities:
Visit
Our Playground - In this topic teachers are encouraged to have students:
-
describe their playground
-
draw a picture of themselves on their favorite part of the
playground - swings, sliding board, jungle gym, soccer field, etc.

send images of their playground or school to the project
moderators
-
tell us what they do when it rains during recess. What kind
of indoor activities are available?
-
describe their school, class sizes, daily schedule, school
rules, etc.

Art
Draws Us Together - In this ongoing topic students draw pictures and
share curriculum topics. Pictures sent to the moderators will be placed
on our project web pages and discussions around the pictures will follow.

Budding
Scientists and Artists - Rinkan El. students and Delmar students send
pictures of "solid, liquid and gas."

Alphabet Book - pictures and words from Maryland, Japan and Brasil
Invite Us Into Your World -
Use pictures and text in English in your native language or English to
help us see your part of our global community.

Pictures Tell the Stories -
In this topic students send drawings to the project moderators and other
Students write stories to accompany the pictures. Students may also "invent"
stories to Accompany books written in another language.

in the Puddles Delmar interprets a picture from their friends in Japan

Rinkan students paint a picture and Delmar writes the story

Animals
at the Farm Delmar writes a story about their favorite Icelandic book
