A Journey To the Center of the Earth
Reviewed by: Nick Sample   By: Jules Verne, adapted by: Howard J. Swach
No ISBN number given

I think the author wrote this book to let us know that nothing is
impossible.  This book is about three people who tried to do the
impossible.  They were Prof. Hardwig, his nephew Harry, and their guide
Hans.  They were on a journey to the center of the earth.  They were
trying to follow the path of Arne Saknussemm, a brilliant professor and
chemist of the sixteenth century.  Harry and his uncle found a parchment
written by Prof. Saknussemm describing a trip to the center of the earth
down through a volcano.
The trio was going down the volcano named Mt. Sneffles.  On their
journey, they encountered, mastodons and animals like plesiosaurs.  They
also saw a caveman that was at least twelve feet tall.  His head was the
sign of a buffalo's.  They also encountered a terrible storm.  During
their adventure they learned you shouldn't start something unless you
Know what you're getting yourself into.
If you like action-packed books where you never what will happen on the
next page, you'll love this book.  The author makes it easy to see in
your mind what is happening.  I really enjoyed this book because I like
action-packed books.  If you're about ten years old and you need a
little more action in your life, this is the book for you.

A good man named Wilbert is the father of two daughters named Wilma and
Lois.  While his wife is named Dee.  Wilbert is a proud man and this
gets him in trouble.  Wilbert buys a god Cadillac and his wife gets mad
because she wants to save money to get a new house.  Wilbert's wife
refuses to ride in the gold cadilllac.  Everybody else in the
neighborhood likes the gold cadillac.  They all think Wilbert must be
doing well.  The Wilbert decides he is going down to Mississippi in hi
hold cadillac.  His brothers told him a black man would be crazy to
drive a brand new, old colored cadillac from Ohio to the south,
especially Mississippi.  Wilbert says that if it is his car he can drive
it anywhere he wants.  When drives South, he gets stopped by  policemen.
He learns a lesson.  When he got back, he sold his cadillac and saved
the money to buy a house.
I liked this book because it is interesting and told a story that taught
a lesson.  It also showed how black people were discriminated against.
I would recommend this book.

I think the theme of my book is the middle ages.

THE MEASLY MIDDLE AGES is a book about the middle ages.  It gives
you all the information that a textbook would give you but it makes it
fun to learn.  There are hilarious pictures in the book that will make
you laugh.  It gives you a chance to make classic decisions and then let
you see if you were right.  It taught me about many other interesting
facts.  The Measly Middle Ages is not your ordinary book.  The Measly
Middle ages is a cool book.
I think the author wrote this book so children could laugh and learn at
the same time.
I really liked this book.  I earned a lot from the book that I never
knew.  The author made it extremely funny for me. The author fully
achieved his goal.  He wrote a book that was informative and was
hilarious.  I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn history
the fun way.  I know nothing about the middle ages till I read The
Measly Middle Ages.  This book was the coolest history book that I've
ever read.

Wayside School Gets A  Little Stranger

The theme statement of this book is to get people to laugh.  My
impression of this book was that he tries to do his best on the book.
This book is about a school that has 30 flights of stairs.  The students
are really weird.  They turn into apples and that kind of stuff.  The
teachers are funny, but dumb.  They school building does not have the
19th story.  Read this book and find out why Lisa's pigtails turn into
snakes and why Mr. Gorf has three nostrils.
I think MR. Sachar's pint of view in writing this book is to entertain
family and friends.  I enjoyed this book because it was totally  crazy
and I like crazy books.  I also thought he put time into his book.  I
would definitely loan  this book to a friend.

The main character calvin lerned how to be funnier.   The author wanted
to right this book to make kids luagh.

Calvin first put a tiger trap and the next day , he caught a tiger.
Each day when Calvin comes from school,  the tiger Hobbes jumps on him.
He  hate Susie because he hates girls.   He also hate his parents. And
his baby-sitter Roslyn.  One day he took an umbrella and a wagon.
Hobbes was in the wagon connected to a rope with Calvin and the
umbrella.  They went down a hill and Calvin fell over into a river.

Theme: Magic

Matt and Holly are visiting their grandparents.  Their grandparents have
a chat that stays in their garden.  What they don't know is that he's
magic.  The cat is always sneaking into the library, and looking at the
same book.  Their grandpa thinks the cat will ruin the book.  One time,
Matt came out and slipped on the cat's herb, while he was wearing his
slippers.  Suddenly the slipper grew bigger and bigger and bigger.  The
cat said to Holly and Matt to steep into the slipper.  The slipper
started to move.  Soon they were on another planet.  They met an old
witch . The cat instructed the slipper to turn into a boat so they could
move on the water.  The witch's name was Nel. She told them of her
troubles.   Suddenly a stampeded of horses appeared.  The cat commanded
the slipper to turn Nel into a beautiful woman.  A man on the horse told
the children that he'd take Nel to the castle, gut the children wanted
to know why they could not come on the horse with Nel.  The man told the
children that there was only room for one person on the horse.  So they
started up the river, and the cat said that the man was the from the
castle.  After a day of rowing night fall come, then  they had to get
out of the boat.  The cat told them to wrap him up in shirt because
everyone was afraid of him.   I can't tell you the rest or I'll ruin
the book.  I enjoyed reading his book because it dealt with magic.  I
think more people should read boos because it improves their
intelligence.  I enjoyed this book very much.  I think Ruth Chew should
write more books about magic.  The pictures in this book were not as
good as the words.  I would recommend this book to a friend.  Why,
because it was very entertaining.
