BENNI THE BEAR

Franklin School
Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA
April 16-April 21, 1997

Hi, from Rebecca Coleman. I teach fifth grade, so my students are age 10 & 11.

The International Educators Conference will be held at the University of Cincinnati April 15 - 20 and I plan to take Benni along with me. I will be a presenter at an International Conference showing people how to use the internet for multi-cultural lessons. Benni would be a perfect example of a project they could see first hand. My presentation will be on Friday. We will be conducting our workshop in the computer lab and I plan to have the participants look up Benni's home page as part of the program.

Dianne, Rosa,

Benni arrived safely today 30 minutes before school was dismissed. My class was so excited! I will take him to Cincinnati with me for the rest of the week for the international conference. Since my class did not have enough time to throughly see everything in Benni's box I promised to bring him back to school on Monday and we would spend as much time as needed that day to study the contents of Benni's box. I will be able to send him on to the next stop Monday evening after school. The last posting indicated that the next stop is:

*April 23-April 30 - Maywood Center, SeaTac, WA, USA

I need to have the snail mail address for this school. I can prepare the box for mailing this week-end then take it to the post office immediately after school on Monday the 21st.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Benni's Visit

Benni had a great time in Missouri. He headed for Washington Monday evening via UPS and should arrive there today or on Monday. Everyone who met Benni at the Third International Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio enjoyed his visit very much. There were 30 different countries represented at the conference. I collected handwriting samples from people of different cultures for Benni but unfortunately can not find them all. I hope we didn't leave them in the hotel. If they turn up I will forward them to you. Many people who heard about Benni are interested in having him visit their school. Also, one of the professors at Cincinnati will be taking her class this week to his web site.

Benni was also the guest at a multi-culture graduate class at Southeast Missouri State University before he left on Monday evening.

Since Benni needed to travel on, he was only with the students at Franklin Elementary school one day so we had Benni Bear Day. They spend most of the day studying the contents of Benni's box, viewing the videos, listening to the music, and gathering/making things to include as souviners from Missouri. We had a great time! I'm sure everyone else who hosts Benni will enjoy his visit as well.
